Michael Wolfe
Michael Wolfe, son of Jacob Wolfe, Sr., was born September 20,
1776 in Pennsylvania and died July 17, 1857 in Chilhowie, Smyth Co.,
VA. His death record includes the following information: "Age:
80 years 9 months and 27 days; Place of death: Chilhowie; Cause of
death: Ulcer of leg; Place of birth: Pennsylvania; Occupation:
farmer; Parents: Jacob & Catherine; Spouse: Nancy,
informant." Michael's first wife was named Peggy, as documented
in a deed dated April 15, 1811
in Washington Co., VA. Peggy died sometime between 1840 and 1848.
Michael Wolfe married second
Nancy Romans on May 12, 1848 in Smyth Co., VA. (Nancy Romans was a
widow when she married Michael Wolfe. Her maiden name is unknown.)
In a deed in Washington
Co., VA, Michael sold land to his brother, Martin Wolfe, on August
20, 1816. In a deed dated
November 19, 1811, Michael purchased land from Samuel and Mary
Brittain. In yet another deed,
dated December 17, 1805, Michael purchased land from Moses and
Barbara Allen. Washington Co., VA marriage records indicate that
Moses Allen married Barbara Wolf(e) on January 16, 1800. It is
unclear if this Barbara (Wolfe) Allen was related to the Jacob Wolfe,
Sr. family.

Census records indicate that Michael and Peggy Wolfe had four sons
and eight daughters. Three of the sons have been proven: Israel
Wolfe, Josiah Wolfe, and Wayman Wolfe. Two daughters have been
proven: Elizabeth Wolfe and Rosannah Wolfe. Two daughters have been
tentatively identified: Apelina Wolfe and Amanda Wolfe. (A special
