Wayman Wolfe Wayman Wolfe, son of Michael and Peggy Wolfe, was born about 1819 in Virginia and died about 1864 in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN while being held prisoner during the Civil War. His parentage has been proven through tax lists. On the 1839 tax list for Smyth Co., VA, Michael Wolfe has three males age 16 or over (himself and two sons). In 1840, Josiah and Wayman Wolfe appear on the tax list for the first time. They are taxed on the same day as Michael, who has one male age 16 or over (himself). Wayman married Rachel Goodman on June 22, 1841 in Smyth Co., VA. Rachel was born about 1815 in Virginia and died on February 27, 1892 in Hancock Co., TN. Wayman and Rachel moved to Lee Co., VA before 1850 and then to Hancock Co., TN prior to 1860. B) Elijah Floyd “Lige” Wolfe was born on May 30, 1845 in Virginia and died on May 23, 1892 in Hancock Co., TN. Lige married Letitia Jane Marcum, daughter of William Marcum and Rachel Woodward. Jane was born on March 9, 1849 in Virginia. She died on February 10, 1933 in Hancock Co., TN. They had the following children: a) Harrison Crockett Wolfe was born on March 4, 1868 in Hancock Co., TN. He died on January 19, 1926 in Hancock Co., TN. b) Matilda Ann “Til” Wolfe was born on January 18, 1870 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on May 30, 1921 in Hancock Co., TN. Til married William J. Matthews on August 8, 1908. William was born on May 16, 1864. He died on September 5, 1917. c) Nervesta “Vestie” Wolfe was born on January 12, 1872 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on June 17, 1907 in Hancock Co., TN. Vestie married James Morgan Welch, son of Stephen B. Welch and Elizabeth Coffman. Morgan was born on February 21, 1873 in Hancock Co., TN. He died on February 5, 1955 in Lee Co., VA and was buried in Wolfe-Welch Cemetery, Hancock Co., TN. d) Cornelia Rachel Wolfe was born on March 24, 1874 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on December 1, 1950 in Claiborne Co., TN. Cornelia married James Levi Williams on August 22, 1898. James was born on December 22, 1876. He died on February 10, 1946 in Claiborne Co., TN. e) Sophia Wolfe was born on December 11, 1877 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on January 27, 1959 in Hancock Co., TN. Sophia married Anthony Payne, son of Moses Payne and Martha Marcum, on July 19, 1898. Anthony was born on November 29, 1873. He died on January 3, 1957 in Hancock Co., TN. f) Nora Ellen Wolfe was born on April 18, 1880 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on August 3, 1963 in Ellicott City, MD. Nora married (1) Stephen Rhinard Welch, son of Stephen B. Welch and Elizabeth Coffman, on November 7, 1896 in Hancock Co., TN. Rhinard was born on August 12, 1876 in Grainger Co., TN. He died on January 18, 1975 in Claiborne Co., TN. C) Daniel Nelson “Nelse” Wolfe was born on March 26, 1846 in Virginia and died on February 3, 1908 in Colby, KS. Nelse married (1) Lydia Ann Ramsey, daughter of Calvin Ramsey and Mary Crumley. Lydia was born about 1848. Nelse also married (2) Elizabeth Ramsey, daughter of Calvin Ramsey and Mary Crumley. Floyd married Almeda Bales, daughter of Archibald Bales and Sarah Busic, on February 7, 1901. Almeda was born on November 18, 1879. She died on August 16, 1960 in Hiawatha, Brown Co., KS. d) Dora Wolf was born on June 16, 1873 in Hancock Co., TN. She died on June 20, 1897 in Hancock Co., TN.
