His death record includes the following information: "Age: 106 years; Place of death: near Marion; Place of birth: Pennsylvania; Occupation: Farmer; Spouse: Eleanor." His parents are not listed on the record. Jacob Wolfe, Jr.'s age at the time of his death would make his birthdate about 1752. There were two men named Jacob Wolfe listed on the Washington Co., VA tax lists for the years 1806 through 1819. One was listed as Jacob Wolfe, Sr. and the other as Jacob Wolfe, Jr. The Jacob Wolfe who died in 1858 in Smyth County also bought and sold land in Washington County during those years as the deeds show his wife was named Eleanor. This shows that the Jacob Wolfe who died in 1858 in Smyth Co., VA was the same as the Jacob Wolfe, Jr. listed as an heir of Jacob Wolfe, Sr. in the 1821 deed in Washington Co., VA. Jacob Wolfe, Jr. was married to Eleanor "Ellen" McReynolds in 1792 in Washington Co., VA by Nicholas Reagan. From census records, Ellen's birthdate can be calculated between 1770 and 1775. Ellen was the daughter of Roland McReynolds and Agnes Ann Rich. Jacob Wolfe, Jr. was listed as an heir of Roland McReynolds in a Washington Co., VA deed dated July 24, 1801. Jacob Wolfe, Jr. purchased 81 acres of land in Washington Co., VA on December 16, 1794 from John and Ann Scott. At the time this deed was recorded, May 28, 1800, Ellen could not "conveniently travel to our said county court." As it was customary at the time for the wife to be questioned separately from the husband whenever land was sold by the two of them, two men were sent to her home to receive her acknowledgement. Jacob Wolfe, Jr. purchased 185 acres of land in Washington Co., VA on August 19, 1805 from James and Fairlaney Wheeler. this same land was sold by Jacob Wolfe, Jr. and "Allen" to John Wheeler on January 16, 1810. Since Eleanor was not listed on this census, she may have died prior to 1850. The children of Jacob Wolfe, Jr. and Eleanor McReynolds are: 1) Roland Wolfe, born about 1795 and died November 1857 in Smyth Co., VA. The Smyth Co., VA death records have the following entry: November 1857, Roland Wolfe, age 62 years died (place unlisted), birthplace (unlisted), parents (unlisted), occupation (not listed), spouse - Elizabeth. Roland married 2nd Elizabeth Goodpasture on September 20, 1848 in Smyth Co., VA.

She may have been pregnant at that time. Leonard married Polly Trammel on January 26, 1822 in Allen Co., KY. Leonard and his family are listed on the 1850 Allen Co., KY census:
Allen Co., KY records show that James C. Wolfe married Elizabeth N. Cole on January 19, 1853. This may be the same as James C. above. Sidney W. Wolfe married Laura E. Chandley on January 22, 1870. This may be the same as S.W. listed above. Nancy M. Wolfe married Henry A. Mayhew on August 12, 1861. This may be the same as N.M. listed above. 4) Sally Wolfe, born about 1813. Early census records include a female in the household of Jacob Wolfe, Jr. who was born between 1810 and 1820. Sally Wolfe was listed with him in 1850 in the Allen Co., KY census shown above. Her age was 37, making her born about 1813. Two other males and three other females have not yet been identified. Two of the females were born between 1804 and 1810; the other between 1810 and 1820. One of the unidentified males was born between 1802 and 1804; the other between 1804 and 1810. The 1840 census of Allen Co., KY includes Henry Wolfe, age 30-40 and James Wolfe, age 30-40 (which would mean both were born between 1800 and 1810). These could possibly be the two remaining sons of Jacob Wolfe, Jr. and Eleanor McReynolds. |
