Running Cedar
Latin name: Lycopodium complanatum
Also called Ground Pine, Running Pine, Ground Cedar, or Trailing Evergreen, this creeping evergreen grows in tangled masses that produce fanlike branches resembling juniper. The leaves are scale like. The horizontal stems grow at or just below surface of ground. It grows to a height of 10 inches. It can be found in moist, shaded, coniferous woods, roadsides, thickets, and rocky places. Its bloom is almost unnoticable.
Running Cedar is common in the Clinch Mountain area.
