Frances "Welsh" was mentioned as an heir of John G. Fletcher on July 13, 1880 in Lee Co., VA. On January 18, 1881 in Lee Co., VA at the settlement of a suit concerning distribution of the estate of John G. Fletcher, Lot No. 4 was awarded to the heirs of Frances "Welsh" indicating that Frances had died before that time. Her heirs were named as Minnie J. "Welsh," Evaline "Welsh," Mary "Welsh," Catherine "Welsh," Gentry "Welsh," and Robert "Welsh."

Sterling and Frances (Fletcher) Welch had eight children:

A)

Nervesta J. Welch, born about 1848. She married James Parkey on February 11, 1867 in Union Co., TN. Since Nervesta was not mentioned in the settlement of her grandfather's estate, it is assumed that she died prior to 1881.

B)

Sarah E. Welch, born about 1850. Sarah E. Welch may be the "Evaline Welsh" mentioned as an heir of Frances Welch in the settlement of John G. Fletcher's estate.

C)

Catherine R. Welch, born about 1852.

D)

John G. Welch, born about 1854. John G. Welch may be the "Gentry Welsh" mentioned as an heir of Frances Welch in the settlement of John G. Fletcher's estate.

E)

Mary E. Welch, born about 1856.

F)

Jenetta M. Welch, born about 1858. Jenetta M. Welch is listed as "Gennett M." on the 1870 Union Co., TN census. She may be the "Minnie J. Welsh" mentioned in the settlement of John G. Fletcher's estate.

G)

Rhoda E. Welch, born about 1862.

H)

Robert Welch. Although not found on censuses, Robert "Welsh" is mentioned as an heir of Frances "Welsh" in the settlement of John G. Fletcher's estate. There is a possibility that either the court record was misinterpreted or the 1870 Union Co., TN census was inaccurately transcribed. Perhaps the "Robert Welsh" mentioned in the settlement of John G. Fletcher's estate should have read "Rhoda Welsh" or maybe the 1870 census should have read "Robert E. Welsh" instead of "Rody E. Welch." All records of that time were handwritten and it is entirely possible that a mistake may have occurred during the duplicating process.
