I, John Goodman, Sr., of the County of Smyth and State of Virginia, being of sound mind but on account of my advanced age and the precarious state of my health, do make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made.
1st I give and devise to my son, Adam Goodman, after the death of my wife, Elizabeth Goodman, the tract of land upon which I now reside and upon which he also resides, to him and his heirs forever. It is my will and desire that my wife, Elizabeth, shall and enjoy this entire tract of land as long as she lives. I require of my said son, Adam Goodman, to pay to my estate in two years after my decease the sum of seven hundred and twenty-five dollars.
2nd I give and desire to my sons John, Joseph, David, George, and Peter Goodman the sum of one hundred dollars each, and to the children of my deceased son Fredrick Goodman, the sum of one hundred dollars, and to the children of my deceased son, Jacob Goodman, the sum of one hundred dollars, and to my daughter, Mary Wassum, the sum of twenty-five dollars. These devises all to be paid in two years after my decease.
3rd All the residue of my estate I direct that my executor hereafter named sell on a credit of twelve months and the proceeds to be equally divided among all my children except Mary Wassum to whom I give $25.00. The children of my deceased sons above named sharing equally with other children and receiving what their fathers would have received had they been living.
4th I hereby constitute and appoint Edward T. Watson executor to this my last will and testament.
5th I give and devise to my son, Adam Goodman, in addition to my tract of land, my waggon and my wind mill.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this the 10th day of January in the year 1850.

I, John Goodman, do by this codial to my will hereto annexed and annul the 2nd clause of said will so far as it devises one hundred dollars to each of my children therein named, the sum of one hundred dollars to the children of my deceased sons, Fredrick and Jacob, and do hereby direct that my Executor to each of my children therein named, and to the children of my deceased sons, Fredrick and Jacob Goodman, and my daughters, Elizabeth Fox, Caty Naff and Rachael Wolf, the sum of seventy dollars each in two years after my decease. The devise of twenty-five dollars to my daughter, Mary Wassum, is not to be affected by this codial. The seventy dollars devised to the children of my deceased sons are to be divided equally among the said children and this devise is not understood as seventy dollars to each of the children of said deceased sons. In the distribution of the sales of that portion of my estate directed to be sold in the third clause of my will, it is my desire that my daughters, Elizabeth Fox, Caty Naff and Rachael Wolf, receive an equal share with my other children. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal to this codial this 11th day of March in the year 1850.
