The following deed was recorded in 1890 in Lee Co., VA:
This indenture made this the fifth day of December one thousand eight hundred and ninty between Anna Welch, R.G. Welch, F.W.L. Welch, Elisabeth Welch, D.W.C. Welch, Anna Welch, J.A. Welch, T.H. Wolfenbarger, G.W. Welch all of the County of Grainger and State of Tennessee of the first part and Steven B. Welch of the second part of Hancock County and state aforesaid witnesseth that the Steven B. Welch for and in consideration of the sum of $21.43 to be paid in one year and $21.43 to be paid in two year and $21.43 to be paid in three year all to be paid as above the receipt is hereby acknowledged hath and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien in fee of and confirm unto the said Steven B. Welch his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parsel of land by estimation tweenty fore acres more or less lying in Lee County Virginia and on the warter of Powels River bounded ass follows Beginning on a postoak on or near the state line between Virginia and Tennessee thence northwardly with a conditional line made between Tanda Welch and Robeson to Powels River thence southwardly with the river to the state line thence west with the sstate line to the Beginning. Now wer Anna Welch, R.G. Welch, F.W.L. Welch, Elisabeth Welch, D.W.C. Welch, Anna Welch, J.A. Welch, T.H. Wolfenbarger, G.W. Welch this day sell and confirm our two shares of said undivided tract of land which Tanda Welch died seased of and a corden to his will we are lawfully seased of and have a good right to convey the same therefore we will warrant and forever defend title to Steven B. Welch his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claim or demand of every other person whatsoever in witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals first above written. Henry Lea and Anna (Coffman) Welch were the parents of seven children:

Tandy R. Welch, born about 1850. He married Hannah (?). Tandy may have died prior to 1880, as he was not included with his family in the Grainger Co., TN census for that year and Hannah was listed as the head of the household. |

B) |
Stephen E. Welch, born about 1852. He married Sarah J. Greer on April 30, 1874 in Grainger Co., TN. Since Stephen was not mentioned in the deed recorded in Lee Co., VA in 1890 (see above document), it is speculated that he died prior to that time. |

C) |
Robert Greene Welch, born about 1854. He married Louisa M. Hopson. |

D) |
Francis William L. "France" Welch, born July 15, 1859 and died June 18, 1946 in Knox Co., TN. He is buried at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Grainger Co., TN. He married first Rebecca Robinette; second Elizabeth Satterfield on September 12, 1889 in Grainger Co., TN. The Lee Co., VA death records contain the following entry: "Coma (or Corra or Corna) A. Welch, female, 2 mos., 24 days, d. 26 December 1879; parents, Francis and Rebecca Welch." It is known that many of the Welch families moved to and from Lee County. This may be the daughter of France and Rebecca (Robinette) Welch, although no definitive proof has been found. |

DeWitt C. Welch, born about 1862. His name may have been DeWitt Clinton, as that was a common name at the time. |

Sarah Welch, born about 1867. She married T.H. Wolfenbarger as indicated by the deed recorded in Lee Co., VA in 1890 (see above document). |

George W. Welch, born June 1871 according to the 1900 Grainger Co., TN census, although the 1880 Grainger Co., TN census indicates he was born around 1869. He married Frances Beeler. |
