Sterling and Frances were living with his brother, Marion, at the time of the 1850 Hancock Co., TN census. Sterling and Frances moved to Union Co., TN where they were included in the 1870 census.

On January 18, 1881 in Lee Co., VA at the settlement of a suit concerning distribution of the estate of John G. Fletcher, Lot No. 4 was awarded to the heirs of Frances "Welsh" indicating that Frances had died before that time. Her heirs were named as Minnie J. "Welsh," Evaline "Welsh," Mary "Welsh," Catherine "Welsh," Gentry "Welsh," and Robert "Welsh."

Fletcher's estate should have read "Rhoda Welsh" or maybe the 1870 census should have read "Robert E. Welsh" instead of "Rody E. Welch." All records of that time were handwritten and it is entirely possible that a mistake may have occurred during the duplicating process. |
